Permanent Laser Hair Removal FAQs
Why is Laser Permanent Hair Removal superior to shaving, waxing and electrolysis?
having is a daily chore, since razors just cut hair at the surface of the skin and then the hair starts growing back almost immediately. Waxing, which pulls hair at the root, can be very painful and does not last long, usually 2-4 weeks. Electrolysis hair removal, versus laser hair removal, can treat one hair follicle at a time, which is extremely time-consuming and very impractical on large areas.
In comparison to these old methods, Laser Permanent Hair Removal removes unwanted hair quickly and affordably with permanent results.
How does Palomar’s Hair Removal System work?
Palomar Hair Removal System emits pulses of light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair. The specialized Palomar light specifically targets the hair follicle to stop its growth, without damaging delicate pores and the surrounding structure of the skin.
How many Laser Permanent Hair Removal treatments will I need?
Hair follicles grow in three cycles: Active, Regressive, and Dormant. The most effective way to remove hair is during its active growth cycle. As such several treatments are needed to achieve full results. Typically treatments are spaced six weeks apart to target hair follicles during the active growth cycle and prevent them from growing back.
What can I expect during a Laser Permanent Hair Removal with Palomar Systems treatment?
One of Radiance’s expertly trained medical aestheticians will move the handpiece over your skin, pulsing it all the while. Each pulse sends a beam of light through your skin. A flashing light, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the handpiece is being pulsed and working to permanently remove unwanted hair.
How long does a Laser Permanent Hair Removal treatment take?
The length of the procedure depends on the area being treated. About five minutes for a small area like the lip or chin and up to an hour for a large area like full legs or an entire back.
What happens after a Laser Permanent Hair Removal treatment?
Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation. The redness gradually subsides within a few hours.
The treated hair will continue to appear for 7-30 days after treatment. This is not new hair, but treated hairs being expelled from the skin.
When will I start seeing results from Laser Permanent Hair Removal?
After your first treatment, it can take up to two weeks or longer for the treated hair to push its way to the surface of the skin and fall out. You can shave as much as you want between treatments, until optimal hair reduction is achieved.
Will Laser Permanent Hair Removal with Palomar Systems work if I have light hair color?
Excellent results can be achieved on black and dark brown hair, while often very good results can be achieved on light brown and dark blond hair. But, because the laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle, blond, gray, and red hair can be difficult and sometimes impossible to treat. A free consultation with one of our highly trained medical aestheticians can help determine how your hair will respond to Laser Permanent Hair Removal.
What about dark skin?
With one of Palomar Systems specially designed handpieces, Radiance is proud to be able to also treat dark skin, an option not available at many other medspas.
What about sun-tanning during Laser Permanent Hair Removal?
Sun exposure on the area to be treated is not recommended for several days before and after treatment. Changes in skin color can affect the results. We recommend you wear a sunscreen on all treated areas whenever outside during your series of treatments.
Are there any risks associated with Laser Permanent Hair Removal?
Laser Permanent Hair Removal is FDA-approved for safety and effectiveness. In terms of side effects, your skin will appear pinkish after treatment, but this will gradually disappear within a few minutes or hours. Sometimes, a mild sunburn effect may occur, which should go away within a day or so.
